Frequent questions (FAQ) / What is the thermic treatment?
What is the thermic treatment?
Once we extrude the billet, we must follow a cooling process of the profile, that will be quicker if we want to achieve high mechanical properties (treatments T6 or T66). We cool it after its conformation in hot (that is, on the exit table from the extrusion press).
With this cooling process, we try to cool down and as quickly as possible the gap of temperatures between the thermic treatment temperature and around 200ºC approximately, to avoid an early precipitation of the dissolved constituents in excess.
After that, we follow a thermic treatment that consists in applying a controlled temperature during a period of hours to achieve the final mechanical characteristics from the aluminium profile.
